About our babies.

As some of you know and some of you don't, Kjirsti is pregnant with twin girls. They are identical and sharing the same inner and outer sacs. They are called monochorionic/monoamniotic twins and they are very rare. Because they share the same inner sac their umbilical cords are very likely to get twisted and/or knotted. When they get big enough that they can't move around as much their blood supply can get cut off. Without frequent monitoring there is about 14- 25% chance of losing one or both babies. With frequent monitoring, in the hospital, there is about zero percent chance of losing either one before they are born. If they don't come before 33-35 weeks, they will be delivered anyway, by C-section, because the risk is less for them outside than staying in. Even if we make it to that point we are probably still looking at a stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
